Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
The experienced PDHPE staff at Port Hacking High is committed to the promotion of an active, healthy and productive lifestyle. Our programs aim to engage and challenge students in learning about and learning to, while exploring issues likely to impact on the health and well-being of themselves and others, now and in the future.
The extensive sporting facilities, indoor gym, three full sized sporting fields, basketball courts, tennis courts and dance studio, allow students to experience a wide range of physical activities including gymnastics and dance.
Personal Development Health and Physical Education Stages 4 and 5 (Years 7-10)
(Compulsory for all 7-10 students as part of studies for the School Certificate)
Students are given the opportunity to explore issues that affect young people: physical activity, mental health, drug use, sexual health, nutrition, supportive relationships, personal safety, gender roles and discrimination.
Physical Activity and Sport Science Stages 4 and 5 (Years 7-10)
(Elective course for 200 hours over years 9-10)
For students who have an interest in recreational activity, physical activity, sport and related health fields and careers. Provides opportunity for students to develop marketable skills in, organization, enterprise, leadership and communication. Students will have the opportunity to participate in an Outdoor recreation camp (Yr9) and Snow skiing camp (Yr10)
2 Unit Personal Development, Health and Physical Education Stage 6 (Years 11-12)
This course has two focuses:
- movement and physical activity including anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and skill acquisition
- current health priorities and the principles of diversity, social justice and supportive environments.
1 and 2 Unit Sport, Lifestyle and Recreational Studies Stage 6 (Years 11-12)
This course caters for a wide range of student need and interest. It can assist students in development of:
- higher level performance skills
- the capacity to adopt sport administrative roles
- the skills of coach, trainer, first aid officer, referee and fitness trainer.
