Music
Stage 4 (Year 7)
Every student in year 7 is taught music. They attend 5 periods per fortnight cycle in which they undertake studies in performance, musicology and composition with an emphasis on performance. A wide range of topics are introduced to provide an understanding of music at this level.
Stage 4 (Year 8)
Students study the Performing Arts areas of music, dance and drama on a rotation basis. Each area takes the selected theme and introduces concepts from these subjects to treat the theme with an original musical being performed in term 4.
Stage 5 (Years 9-10)
In year 9 students may elect to study music. The key areas of performance, musicology and composition are treated in more detail across the course and involve topics from classical music to jazz and also cover the compulsory topic of Australian Music.
Music 2 Stage 6 (Years 11-12)
This course provides students with the opportunity to build on the knowledge, skills, understanding and attitudes gained in Music 7-10 and encourage the desire to continue learning in formal and informal music settings after school. The focus is on Western art music. The course caters for a range of interests in students extending from the broadly based to a more specialised knowledge.
Music 1 Stage 6 (Years 11-12)
Music 1 provides an alternative course of study to Music 2 and the curriculum structure is adaptable enough to meet the needs and interests of students with varying degrees of prior formal and informal learning in music through flexibility in the topic choice and areas of study including contemporary/popular music. As in Music 2 students may specialise in performance, composition or musicology or a combination of these.
Extension Stage 6 (Year 12)
Students undertaking music extension have generally reached a high level of musical sophistication and this course is designed to focus the continuing and refinement of students advanced music knowledge and skills towards independent musicianship. This specialisation occurs in Performance, Composition or Musicology through an individual program.
