Drama
Stage 4 (Year 8)
Students study the Performing Arts areas of music, dance and drama on a rotation basis. Each area takes the selected theme and introduces concepts from these subjects to treat the theme with an original musical being performed in term 4.
Stage 5 (Years 9-10)
In junior secondary years Drama provides a valuable means of increasing self-confidence and social awareness. Students are involved physically as well as emotionally and intellectually: the students learn through doing.
These are some of the objectives:
- Communicate with increased skill and confidence, by both verbal and non-verbal means
- Work co-operatively and creatively in group situations
- Use and experiment with the elements of dramatic presentation
- Write critically about drama and theatre
- Realize scripted and non scripted material in performance
- Improvise and playbuild
- Script drama, including media scripts
- Learn performance techniques
- Learn technical aspects of theatre
- Understand the place of drama in society, present and past
Students will, as a result, be able to develop the following:
- An increased awareness and perception of the value of self and others
- An awareness of the significance of drama
- An interest in reading plays and writing related to drama
- An enjoyment of theatre-going, film and video, and a critical understanding of production and performance
Stage 6 (Years 11-12)
Students undertake a study of Dance as an artform. There is an equal emphasis on the components of Performance, Composition and Appreciation in the study of Dance. Students studying Dance bring with them a wide range of prior dance experience. Physical training and preparation of the body is fundamental and of paramount importance to the course, and informs all three components of the course.
Components to be completed:
- Performance 40%
- Composition 20%
- Appreciation 20%
- Additional 20% (to be allocated by the teacher to
suit the specific circumstances/contexts of the class)
HSC Course
Students continue common study in three course components of Performance, Composition and Appreciation and also undertake an in-depth study of dance in one of the Major Study components, either Performance, Composition, Appreciation or Dance and Technology.
