Careers

The careers program consists of timetabled classes for year 10. Students research job-hunting techniques e.g. Analysing their own skills and interests and matching with their jobs.

They look at job getting skills and produce professional resumes and personal presentation folders. They explore course options in post secondary and this helps them decide on their subjects for year 11.

The careers program also involves sending year 10 on work experience, which is alone in small groups, throughout the year. (Year 9, 11 and 12 students can be sent on work experience when required) This allows students to do more than one work experience.

There is a strong emphasis on individual counselling (particularly with year 10 and 12 students) in relation to their career needs. The careers adviser is on the welfare committee, which allows him to tap into particular situation before they become unmanageable.

Careers at PHHS uses up to date technology/resources. There are computer labs, which helps to initialise these resources. The school keeps up to date in this ever-changing area in a variety of ways e.g. University Information days, TAFS & Private Provider days, school talks e.g. defence forces, business colleges, police, university faculties, past student as guest speaker, nursing, industrial visits and careers markets.

There is a careers/Senior study area that is maintained and has up to date resources for university, TAFE, Private Providers and employment opportunities.

The careers program is flexible so that it can adapt to the changing nature and trends within employment and the training institution.
